One of two men shot dead in Wednesday’s double murder on Wildman Street in Kingston has left the mother of his child saddened that the bond between father and son has been broken.

Akiel ‘Bull’ Ainsworth, 26, and 30-year-old DeShane ‘Eddie’ Palmer, both of Wildman Street, Rose Garden, addresses were among three persons shot about 8 p.m.

Both succumbed to injuries while the other person remains hospitalised.

It was like a nightmare for *Sherene Morris when she got the news that Ainsworth had been gunned down.

“They cut my son and his dad bond short,” she told The Gleaner from her location overseas.

She said she sent her son to spend time with his father.

The Gleaner gathered that Ainsworth was an employee of Burger King, and Palmer was employed to Egg City.

Morris said she is not clear on what transpired and why they were killed.

In a series of social media posts, she details how Ainsworth was a good father to his son.

The Gleaner understands that the men had just returned home after attending an event to pay their round Robin when they met their demise.

A source with knowledge of the area told The Gleaner that a shooting occurred on Monday, and Wednesday’s deadly attack may have stemmed from that incident.

Residents, however, are concerned that police officers who were stationary in the area are no longer present.

“Man dem start the year same as last … . As the police gone … . Vehicle (once) park and patrol happened every day,” the resident told The Gleaner.

Reports are that a lone gunman walked up to the men and opened fire before escaping on foot in the area.

The community, popularly known as Spoilers, has been engulfed in a long-standing gang warfare between warring factions, Genasyde and the Darksyde gangs.

Many lives have been lost, injuries, and families displaced.

The Kingston Central police say investigations into the double homicide and shooting are ongoing.

The Kingston Central Police division recorded a 17 per cent reduction in murders last year.

At the close of 2023, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said 40 people were killed in violent attacks compared to 48 in 2022.
