Twenty-one students from 16 schools in Hanover Western who aced the Primary Exit Profile examinations have been awarded for their excellent performances.

The students, their parents or guardians and teachers were all feted at the Grand Palladium Hotel in Hanover, courtesy of Hanover Western Member of Parliament Tamika Davis.

The students were presented with book vouchers redeemable at Sangster’s Book Stores, school supplies, gifts, trophies and monies for expenses in the 2024-2025 academic year. The students will be going to high schools in St James, Hanover, Westmoreland and Trelawny.

The top-performing boy, Jevaughn Dennett, of Esher Primary School, and the top-performing girl, Abrielle Anderson, of Kendal Primary and Infant School, were given special recognition for their achievements.

Education Officer Susan Simms, who has responsibility for schools in western Hanover, said that the PEP results for schools in the area were better this year when compared to 2023. She praised the principals, teachers and parents for their “unwavering commitment and dedication towards the education of the children throughout the academic year”.

“Parents, your unwavering support and dedication to your children’s education are commendable. I know that you are beaming with pride as you witness your children achieve another educational milestone,” she stated.

Simms said that the highest achievers received scores of 379.6 and 368.6 this year, compared to 344.6 and 339.7 last academic year.

She insisted that all the educators in Quality Education Circle 34, which includes western Hanover, believe in the holistic development of students in the area.

Davis, who was staging the ceremony for the fourth year, said the children are the future of the nation and issued a charge to them to try their best to remain focused as they move up the educational ladder.

“It is the beginning of a new journey,” the member of parliament said as she advised the awardees not to underestimate the new step that they are taking on the educational ladder or the competition that they will be facing going forward.

“It is no secret that my passion for education drives everything that I do, and I sincerely believe that education is the vehicle that will drive people to success,” she stated.

She also commended the parents for their support.
