Dance a yard, Mr Thwaites, before you dance abroad

THE EDITOR, Sir:
In light of Ronald Thwaites' column 'Saving subpar schools' (Gleaner, April 16, 2018), I question why he is insisting on reappointing the chairman to a school board that has been failing over the last 12 years. The school is Kingston Technical High in his constituency.
The alumni groups and parent-teacher association (PTA) met with him to share concerns last June. He requested submissions of names from the group. Yet, he and others reappointed the same failing leadership in an ineffective chairman and board for his agenda.
So, Mr Thwaites, please, start in your constituency. The alumni groups and PTA are willing to assist to improve our beloved school. However, it is impossible to do so under present leadership.
The two groups are assisting with initiatives to improve literacy through mentoring and an intervention programme, and building infrastructure to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics more realistic.
