Teachers hitting on schoolgirls nothing new

I am very sorry to hear what happened to Shanoya Wray.
The phenomenon of improper student-teacher relations has been a subject of interest in Jamaica for years. It happened to me.
I was in eighth grade or so when a male teacher started looking at me and he even started writing me and sending letters in the mail. For me, it didn't go any further than that. I recently talked to one of my sister's classmates and he said, "Do you think that you are the only one that Mr X was interested in?"
I had a Spanish teacher who went back to her country and they assigned a male teacher from Jamaica to teach. He spent most of his time trying to talk to the female students. I disliked him because of what he was doing and my love for Spanish diminished.
When I was in all-age school, I observed a male teacher rubbing and groping a female student's breast right behind the school. I never liked him after that. Whenever he offered me a ride in his car, I didn't take it, and I made sure I left the school before I went into his class.
I live abroad and have seen many teachers lose their licences for unethical behaviour and even less. I am 50 years old, so it's nothing new, but I pray that things will change now that this case has emerged.
