Letter of the Day | Pray for our children

Published:Saturday | May 18, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Prayer is a necessity in the everyday lives of the people in our society. Nowadays, it is needed more than ever, especially with our children becoming exposed to things that will only poison the mechanism of their thought processes. Our children are becoming delinquent, and due to this, crime is an uncontrollable issue. If parents don’t take the time out to pray for their children in order for them to become valuable to the society, then society will not be something to look forward to.

Without a doubt, it is every parent’s responsibility to protect our children from the hands of evil. Parents and guardians are fully responsible for what is happening to our children. We allow them to do what they want, when they want, and how they want to do things, with no restriction, boundaries, or guidance along the way. With this, you are opening doors for them to seek guidance elsewhere, but parents, it is not too late to help our kids. We need to pray earnestly for the protection of our children and offer them to God. He will lead and guide you as to how to guide your children.

In the book Child Guidance by EGW, it says, “… We are just as responsible for the evil that we might have checked in others by exercise of parental or pastoral authority as if the acts had been our own” (CG 235.4).

ONE-ON-ONE TALK

Sadly, our children are going missing and being murdered like turning the pages of a book. And we are wondering and crying out loud, “Why God? Why me?” You see, as parents, we have the privilege and obligation to care for, love, and help our kids who are a valuable blessing from God like the abundant life God desires for them.

Sometimes as parents, we think that we are doing right by our kids, but are we really? Yes, we must monitor the songs they listen to; yes, we must monitor the movies they watch or the company they keep. But have you ever taken the time to have a serious conversation with your child one-on-one to see what is going on in his or her life, inside and out?

Often, a person wears the loveliest smile on their face, but in reality, behind the smile is a burden of depression, guilt, pain, and much more.

Ultimately, we need to get down on our knees and PRAY, pray without ceasing for our children. We need to ask God to protect our children from the evil forces of this cruel and dying world. Protect them from the kidnappers, murderers, violence, the use of drugs, and all other things that have them trapped in a bubble of destruction, where they feel that they have no hope.

God, we ask that You walk with our children and talk with them and never leave their side. Protect them on their going out and coming in while travelling or at school each and every day. AMEN!

Come on parents, what are we doing? Our children need us! Please, let us pray for our children.
