Restructure public-sector boards

Published:Monday | September 27, 2021 | 12:06 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

We move from one scandal related to corruption in the public sector to another in seamless fashion, from Petrojam to Caribbean Maritime University to Nutrition Products. We as a people now need to demand that public-sector boards of directors be restructured to stop the practice of packing them with apologists and supporters of the party in power.

In spite of the agreement and commitment of Prime Minister Andrew Holness to restructure public-sector boards of directors by December 31, 2020, we continue to have boards of directors that are selected by ministers who choose only loyalists and those who continue to plunder the public purse.

Let us once and for all correct this major flaw of governance and act with urgency to restructure public-sector boards of directors and hold them accountable.
