Rose Shaw, Hubert Williams should be withdrawn as PNP candidates

Published:Thursday | May 16, 2024 | 12:08 AM

This is an open letter to PNP President Mark Golding.

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I write on behalf of the real PNP in Eastern St Thomas. By now you would have heard about the behaviour of Rosemarie Shaw, the party aspirant for Eastern St Thomas, and former Mayor Hubert Williams, councillor of the White Horses division, at the prayer vigil meeting last Wednesday, May 8 for the late Councillor Rohan Bryan, otherwise called ‘Washy’.

I was there as a ‘rooted and grounded’ PNP who has been supporting the party from birth. Both behaviour and words uttered from their mouths has divided the PNP ‘grounds’ in the parish to the extent that the family of the late Councillor Bryan is now contemplating a private funeral service as a mark of respect for his life.

I found the address by Mayor Hubert Williams and caretaker Rose Shaw unbecoming and an indication that they are a liability to my party. Young persons who were in attendance left the meeting, questioning whether this is the quality of candidates for leadership which the PNP is putting forward.

We call for the immediate removal of both Williams and Shaw and that a public apology be issued to the family of the late Councillor Bryan. No way can I and my large like-minded PNP supporters give support to these two. Shame, shame, shame, shame. Time come for them to leave or we will be voting for the JLP. Mark our words.

I am not surprised at the contentious nature of Shaw’s address as she has behaved like this towards the PNP before when she was on the other side, but former Mayor Williams has disappointed us badly.

We still remember when Shaw’s behaviour led to longserving members of the PNP being driven out of the original parish council when she was elected mayor under the JLP banner.

We are sure that if the Most Honourable PJ Patterson were the leader he would never, never, never advise or suggest that this woman be considered candidate for the noble PNP. I await your response in action.
