Gratitude to robot taxi drivers
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the route taxi drivers who went on an all-island strike on Monday, June 10. Your collective absence on our nation’s streets was a dream come true.
On that day, throughout the city of Kingston, for the first time in a long while, I did not have to contend with robot taxi drivers coming to a sudden halt in front of my vehicle to pick up or let off passengers; with seeing robot taxi drivers recklessly and inconsiderately zooming, at breakneck speed, up or down the wrong side of the road, as I waited patiently in various lines of traffic, throughout the city; with seeing, as I do on a daily basis, robot taxi drivers brazenly and unabashedly breaking red lights; with contending with robot taxi drivers, suddenly and without prior hand signal or indicator jut menacingly in front of my vehicle.
Yes indeed, it was a great and rare pleasure to drive on Kingston’s streets during that islandwide strike. Thanks for giving me and fellow law-abiding motorists who drove on the roads that day, a much-needed and well-deserved respite. Speaking for myself, I am truly grateful!
