Modern flaws of technology

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Flow and Digicel are copying America’s technology, but we do not have a reliable power supply to support telephone connectivity in Jamaica. The energy minister or the powers-that-be should address this as soon as possible.

Years ago, when we had telephones provided by the Jamaica Telephone Company plugged into an outlet on the wall, when current was gone we had a reliable and convenient telephone service to dial emergency numbers, because an emergency can be life-threatening.

Now, in modern times when the JPS cuts off their service, our phone service goes dead because the cable boxes depend on electricity to function.

So we pattern the US in Jamaica by plugging our phones in a cable box, which is not reliable when current is gone. Jamaica is not completely and absolutely ready for cable services where telephones are concerned, unless we have 100 per cent supply of no power cuts from the JPS.

Can we say, then, years gone by with an older technology, telephones were more reliable?
