No need for any resignation
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I, too, watched the recent proceedings as it relates to the Integrity Commission and the Oversight Committee of Parliament.
What I observed was candid and factual information put forth by members of the Integrity Commission (IC). It is clear to me that there are those who are more interested in the ‘messengers’, while completely ignoring the ‘message’.
What continues to elude many is the fact that respect is not only earned, but ought to be reciprocated. How many parliamentarians have made derogatory and unfounded statements and apologised? Name one who has condemned the aspersion that members of the IC are taking down the Government? That is what concerns and saddens me.
The same high standards we expect, demand and have received from the IC are the very same that we expect and demand from those elected to represent the people of Jamaica.
My admiration for the country of Singapore is well known, and I am mindful of a quote from its former prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew: ‘ A nation is great not by its size alone. It is the will, the cohesion, the stamina, the discipline of its people and the quality of their leaders which ensure it an honourable place in history.’
To the commissioners I say, carry on. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a substitute for integrity.
