TrainFit Club creates a merry ‘FitMas’ with three-in-one event
“Oh what fun it is to hike on Castleton river trail!” That's the jingle TrainFit Club hopes to have you singing once you sign up for its annual 'FitMas' celebration.
The brainchild of the club's owner and personal trainer, Stokely Rose, the decade-old event is making a hot comeback on December 11, after a brief hiatus owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Already, it's shaping up to be the event's most exciting staging yet. “We're going to be doing three activities: a one-hour workout in the park in Castleton; a short heart-pumping hike up John Crow Hill, including a very scenic view through canopy trees, beautiful plants and lush bamboo, for one mile. Level two takes us to a steep climb called Small Jacob. You will be sure to feel the burn, but we hope that you're distracted by the beautiful flowing river and green hillside. When we return, we will have a one-hour yoga session. It's going to be very therapeutic.” Rose told Lifestyle. Breakfast will be provided, and participants can choose which activity they would like to do; they are afforded the opportunity to do all or some.
The aim is to create a one-of-a-kind fitness experience for 100 persons this year. Given current restrictions, participants will be teamed up in small groups and maintain social distancing. Mask wearing is a requirement, and sanitisation will be strictly enforced throughout. Additionally, buses will be provided to transport persons to the venue since Castelton can only accommodate limited parking.
“I know the country isn't fully open yet. But I do believe that we can host fitness programmes that are aligned with building your immune system, building health and fun to the clean air of rural areas. People are excited to be going outdoors again. We have reached up to 60 per cent of the way so far, so we're looking forward to confirming the remaining 40 this week,” he added. And because crime is a concern when it comes to walking, persons can rest assured that organisation, safety and comfort are the formidable brand's top priority.
The location is one that Rose holds very dear to his heart. As a native of St Mary, he wanted to give back to the parish. Not only did he make Castelton the destination for the 3-in-1 event, but he also used his own money and resources to cut the trail as a gift.
Since the event is Christmas themed, persons are encouraged to come out in their green, red and white. T-shirts are also available. Participants are asked to take with them medication if they have pre-existing conditions, snacks, a yoga mat or a big beach towel. “We want to promote health in a fun way. We want persons to come out, and self-actualise, take lots of pictures and create memories.”
