If fresh air and sunshine can boost the mood and mind, just imagine what would happen if you dropped exercise into the mix. In commemoration of the country’s reopening, personal trainer Patrice White has decided to host a wellness programme she calls Outside on the Fitside.

The free fitness camp, which starts tomorrow, April 9, will go on for eight Saturdays. According to the conceptualiser and creator, it was a means of making the transition from the two-year ‘run’ in the virtual world to returning outside to physical training. It was also White’s way of giving back and reuniting the wellness community.

“We have been under curfew for so long. Now with outside opening back up, it’s the perfect opportunity to be back out in a group setting with like-minded persons who want to shred, sweat, dance and burn some calories,” the chief executive officer of Dynamic Lifestyle told Living.

White explained that although the global pandemic initially took a toll on her mentally, she was able to develop an enriched virtual clientele both locally and internationally. Seeing them push pass their own circumstances to achieve mind and body goals was all the motivation she needed to inspire positive change into her own life.

Since she grew accustomed to hosting large boot camps, pre-pandemic, White was delighted to make this thrilling comeback. The event, of course, would not be possible without her sponsors Guardian Group Jamaica and TruShake. As a health and wellness ambassador for Guardian Life, the trainer was happy when the company jumped on board to support the initiative. With TruShake also welcoming the professional with open arms, her small concept shifted focus from just her community to a free activity for everyone.

And to make the camp truly exciting, the fitness professional enlisted assistance from a few clients and friends to elevate the experience: recording artistes Elephant Man and Tarrus Riley, as well as social media influencers Kareem ‘Bwoyatingz’ Weathers, Darrielle ‘Triple X’ Cummings, Kerry-Ann ‘Chiney K’ Collins and Danar ‘Dan Dan’ Royal.

The camps will commence tomorrow at Guardian Group Parking Lot in New Kingston, from 6:30 to 8 am where the ‘Energy God’ Elephant Man will kick-start the outdoor adventure. “I just want people to come and unwind, do a few burpees and have some ‘fit’ fun,” White added.
