When Jero Brown approached Jaycynth Campbell at a Christian conference in 2018, it solidified his view of her as a woman of class.

“There was just something about her that I greatly admired,” Brown told The Gleaner.

He had first interacted with her through Instagram the year prior, but Campbell didn’t remember him, despite the casual conversations they had.

“He came up to me after the service and introduced himself as ‘Jero, my Instagram friend’,” she recalled. “I was totally clueless as I did not remember him, but was very courteous.”

Her vague recollection could be attributed to her first impression of him being “sweet, but not what the doctor ordered”. Yet, the 29-year-olds decided to get to know each other which revealed things they were praying and seeking God’s direction for. Consequently, deciding to date was a no-brainer.

“We sat on the lawns of Devon House for our first date and had some of the most captivating conversations about church, family [and] what we want in the future,” Campbell said. “It was a very simple but breathtaking evening.”

She continued, “Each second spent with him answered all my questions and put all my doubts to shame. These were the questions that I had put to God; attitudes and beliefs I wanted in a husband. There were still days when I was uncertain, but that was just fear of the unknown.”

They became boyfriend and girlfriend after two months of dating, and Brown sought God’s guidance to ensure that she should be his wife.

“I first prayed and asked God to reveal His signs to me. She also demonstrated the qualities I needed in a wife. She is passionate, honest, kind. I especially love the way she relates to others. She is always elegant. Her faith in God, her dedication to everything she does, especially praise and worship. She is intelligent, her humour is to die for and she is very humble.”

And so, he popped the question on July 25, 2021, at a jerk and paint session at Skyline Gardens in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

“I thought it would be perfect, as Jaycynth would have no idea what’s coming,” he explained. “Close to the end of the event, Jay thought that all the couples present were taking couple’s photo. We were last on the list and she was ready to take the picture; little did she know it was a proposal. As she stood before me, our favourite song - Lightning by Mortimer–- played. She still did not notice what was happening until I popped the question.”

The wedding unfolded at The Jamaica Council Church of God Seventh Day in Kingston on December 28, and materialised thanks to the support of loved ones.

“They say it takes a village, and I do agree with that statement,” Campbell said. “On days when we were on the verge of throwing in the towel, our friends encouraged us. They went above and beyond to ensure that things were running as close as possible to smooth. They kept us in line even when there were days [when] we wanted to take matters in our own hands. They were our eyes and ears and most importantly, they prayed for us.”

With God being the thread weaving their story, their wedding stood out with a praise and worship segment as they and their wedding party got jiggy for Jesus.

“We have been through a lot, especially throughout the planning,” Brown explained. “However, God was always faithful and He always showed up on our behalf in ways we did not even see possible. It was also a way of giving God thanks in advance for what He is about to do in our lives.”

The segment which stands out as Campbell’s most memorable moment of the day, adding, “it reminded me that God’s presence never left, and that He has greatly blessed that day.”

The singing didn’t stop there. Brown’s most memorable moment from their wedding is when his bride serenaded him with Donald Lawrence’s remake of Chaka Khan’s Through the Fire.
