Ralph, Nash Betts honoured at pre-Golden Globe luncheon

Sheryl Lee Ralph and Niecy Nash Betts were honoured at a special luncheon on Sunday ahead of tonight's 80th Golden Globe Awards.

The event, organised by event designer and producer, William P. Miller, and dubbed A Golden Salute, celebrated the actresses on their Golden Globe nominations.

Guests, including family members of Ralph and Nash Betts, gathered at the Ritz-Carlton, Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles for the intimate affair.

Ralph posted on Instagram that she was still on a high following the event. "Last night will be a night I'll never forget," said Ralph. "To be celebrated alongside my sister and friend of more than 20 years @niecynash1, with all the beautiful, talented women who have come before and after me, in one room, is beyond me! Honest to God, I am still on a high from all the love I received from my friends and family. All I can say is thank you. This is truly what believing looks like!"

Tonight's Golden Globe Awards started at 8 o'clock and is being held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Ralph has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series for Abbott Elementary.

Niecy Nash-Betts has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Television Limited Series/Motion Picture for Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Of Jamaican parentage, American-born Ralph made her professional debut in the 1977 comedy A Piece of the Action before gaining her breakout role as Deena Jones in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

Ralph has appeared in many productions over her career, including The Mighty Quinn, The Distinguished Gentleman, Moesha, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Deterrence.

In 2022, she won her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the role of Barbara Howard in Abbott Elementary.

Nash Betts made her acting debut in Boys on the Side and appeared in several projects, including Party of Five, Malcolm & Eddie, The Bachelor, City of Angels, NYPD Blue, Reno 911! and Mrs America. She scored Emmy nominations for her performances in Getting On and When They See Us and also hosted the show Clean House, which won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Special.
