While many were concerned about their ‘carnival bodies’ on the road at Carnival in Jamaica 2023, the very pregnant Melissa Gordon showed no signs of concern as she revelled with the best of them.

Speaking with The Gleaner, Gordon said though she had missed the event for a few years, she would not be suffering from FOMO (fear of missing out) this time around.

Dressed in her royal blue Luminous Lagoon costume that perfectly framed her seven month baby bump she said, “I had a tabanca. I missed out for a couple years and you know I just didn’t want to miss this opportunity.”

Gordon and her husband Ricardo were among many revellers who decided to take on the road with carnival newcomers GenXS. Recounting her experience as “amazing”, she told The Gleaner, “GenXS has been prime! This whole experience, the costume selection, pick up and I’m just like really looking forward to enjoying the road march.”

Chiding those who missed the fête, she said, “Don’t make it happen again! Don’t make it happen again. You make sure you catch the next carnival in Jamaica,” tapping into that motherly finger wag.

While the sun beat down unto the Kingston streets leaving temperatures above 90 degrees Celsius, Gordon looked no more worse for wear, sipping on her non-alcoholic drink, fan in hand.

“So far so good, I mean I can’t dance and gwaan like how I would normally but so far so good.”

A carnival veteran of eight years, she confessed that though she is partial to her Jamaican carnival experiences, those who can should definitely give Trinidad Carnival a test run.

“I mean I’m partial to Jamaica, this is home as far as I’m concerned but you know, Trinidad was a vibe. But so far Jamaica is still my favourite.”

Gordon is due to give birth to her bundle of joy in June.
