By all fashion accounts, style says who you are without ever uttering a word. With that strut of confidence, Kimone Davis remains authentic with her creative expression of stunning couture on and off the runway.

“I am a radiographic technician by profession and it’s a very demanding job. I have to wear uniform every day so when I get to ‘dress up’, it’s very special. My friends recognised that my fashion sense was worth sharing. So, at the beginning of this year, I challenged myself to do 365 days of fashion,” she told Lifestyle.

Since then, persons have been reaching out to the trend enthusiast for styling tips and advice. When they are not sharing they have also put in requests for the secret to style sauce. And by that, we mean the whereabouts of featured pieces to purchase for themselves.

Fashion is by no means new to Davis. In fact, growing up, she saw fashion as a way of expressing oneself. She recalls her mother dressing her and her twin (aged six) in unique pieces and receiving several compliments from others about how beautiful her children looked in their outfits.

Living on the viewpoint of having style as the ultimate artistic outlet, this creative has been able to unlock a different level of interest as she got older.

These days, she keeps current on trends by following the various fashion shows, seeing how designs work through the eyes of various influencers. But finding clothes for her body type was no easy task.

“For someone who is five feet tall and petite, one of the issues I face is not being able to find a perfect fit off the shelf. Occasionally, I’m able to make adjustments without compromising the design and the overall look and feel of the item,” she shared.

Another issue she has faced when it comes to her closet is finding that missing, what she considers ‘perfect’ piece to complete an outfit. “Oftentimes, it’s a waiting game. So I just buy pieces and eventually it comes together in the end.”

One could never tell by her posts on social media that there were any challenges. But that only goes to show you that this doll up agent can take on any fashion mission and conquer in style.

Some of her icons in the glitz and glam industry include June Ambrose, Kerry Spence, also known as Kass Stylz, Iesha Gilchrist of Thriftntell and Racquel Jones, among others.

“June has a very unique style and taste when it comes to fabric choice to design. A fellow Jamaican, Kerry’ eye for details is exceptional, especially when it comes to colour locking. Iesha is considered the Beyoncé of thrift. I’m into thrifting and I love how she finds the pieces and transforms them into a totally different fit. And Racquel is a Jamaican lyricist who designs her own clothes for her performances. She’s hardcore, ragamuffin, and goes against the norm with her designers,” the digital creator highlighted.

Additionally, she is a lover of designer brands like Chanel for the vintage looks, Louis Vuitton for the iconic pieces and Jacquemus for the structured design of bags.

Bringing things closer to home, five essential must-haves currently in her closet are denim – it gets the job done at all times; blazer – no matter the colour, it is effective as a transition piece and can assist with elevating a look; a little black dress – every woman’s go-to for a night out; T-shirt, a plain white shirt or a graphic tees; to establish and help with making a statement; and of course a pair of heels.

Always one to try any look in the name of fashion, she is all about pulling off extra baggy pants (petite and baggy) as well her newfound love, tailored suits.

David also admits that she is usually a black, brown, white and grey kind of girl. However, she has recently started exploring more colours, noting that all shades are now welcome. “Fashion makes me feel good; dressing up makes me feel good. So it’s important to impart that wisdom to others because I know there are many persons out there who just want some ideas on how to wear a piece or how to make do with what they have in their closet,” she said.

Her advice for those looking to find their style but don’t know where to start is to explore and trust yourself in this adventurous process of colours, textures, styles, fit and brands. “Style is about expressing your feelings so don’t be afraid to be your authentic self.”
