Nothing is sweeter than the opulence of an all-white look, elevated by sophisticated shoulder play, a deep plunge neckline, along with a ruched sweep detail.

While many people weigh the pros and cons of fitting in or standing out, Sherry-Kay Jones was always busy effortlessly doing both in luxurious style. “From a young age, I was obsessed with clothes and shoes and I didn’t even realise it,” she tells Living in a recent interview. Jones makes no apologies for marching to the beat of her own drum, seamlessly blending classic and contemporary fashion.

Practising to strut in her cousins’ heels while attending church, she grew fascinated by the concept of dressing up when the occasion called for it. She recalled her desire for a pumpkin skirt, but she couldn’t afford to buy one for herself. So, she decided to tap into her creative side and make her trendy dreams a stunning reality.

Using an old skirt, she removed the elastic band and incorporated in her redesign with another old skirt to create her very own pumpkin skirt.

“Every piece of clothing I had, I used to cut to my liking, try to redesign it or make it different because I knew how to sew. I wasn’t fortunate to have a lot of clothes or was able to afford the latest trends growing up, but I was creative. Now, I understand that fashion has always been important to me,” she revealed.

Now that she is all grown up, Jones is a big fan of exquisitely timeless pieces that can be repurposed at a moment’s notice. Her personal style is bold, different, risky, elegant and fierce, with brands like Zara and River Island among her must-have lineup.

“I find their pieces to be very unique. With Zara, you really have to look deep to see the beauty of their items and River Island has some very cute and trendy bags. Tory Burch is another brand I like for their sandals,” she added.

Despite the pressure to always stride down the runway of life in style, this fashionista is grateful that individuals have reached out to her via social media, engaging in conversations about fashion, hair, makeup, and skincare content.

“People are always telling me they like my style and I love that. I like that I can, through my social media platform, post things that are appealing to other young girls so they can be motivated to improve their skin, make up and just to dress up and feel good about themselves,” she highlighted.

As far as fashion icons go, Jones looks up to Karin Jinsui for her bold and exquisite fashion taste, “Her style is different and she makes it her own.” She also admires Wunmi Bello for embracing her African culture while placing her own unique twist on couture, “She slays whatever she wears and her styles show you exactly who she is, unapologetically.”

Noting that she is currently into baggy jeans for their comfort and versatile styling options, she also listed casual and gym wear, formal attire, camouflage, and corset tops as her closet essentials.

If you’re looking to discover your fashion sense, Jones advises that you dare to be different and step out of your comfort zone.

“Sometimes you can’t find your style because you aren’t willing to try anything new. Don’t give in to the pressures of social media or think that the clothes you spend your hard earned money on cannot be worn twice. Wear your clothes ‘til dem done,” she said, adding, “And be confident; you have to be confident, fierce and unapologetically you. That’s how you will find your style and make it your very own.”
