To Grant and to hold with Jahneil and Kavion

Kavion Grant and Jahneil Haye first laid their eyes on each other back in preparatory school. The young hearts went on to meet again during their time at university, and bumped into each other years later. But fate didn’t step in until Kavion made the bold move of sliding into Jahneil’s direct messages. This DM encounter on social media propelled the two on to a romantic journey that led to ‘I do’.

Strolling down memory lane, Jahneil recalled sparks flying after randomly seeing Kavion’s familiar face entering the building that she was exiting. “My face instantly lit up when I saw him and my first thought was ‘Wow, he’s looking so handsome, mature and sexy.’ He appeared to be happy to see me too, and we took the time to catch up and chat briefly,” she told Island Wedding.

Despite the merriment of that moment, they parted ways without exchanging numbers.

But everything changed a year later. “One day, I saw her story on Instagram and I just loved that she was having fun, so I commented on it. This led to a conversation via DM,” Kavion said. Jahneil was excited to see a new message from the man who would go on to become her new flame. She teasingly responded to his message and that blossomed into their beautiful relationship.

The pair went on a first date to Voda Lounge in Portmore, St Catherine. Relaxed from start to finish, Jahneil was pleased that she was able to confirm what she knew from early on. “We had a great time talking, laughing and just enjoying the time together. It also confirmed that the attraction we had for each other over the phone and the Internet was very much present while we were together physically.”

Three months after that fateful DM, the two became an official couple in 2021.

Witnessing his selfless, hard-working, mature, committed and jovial nature firsthand has always been fascinating for Jahneil. Prioritising his family’s needs ahead of his own, his knowledge and wisdom comes in handy as an entrepreneur who dedicates his efforts to setting and achieving his goals.

“Kavion is someone who loves to pour into others. He has helped me to be more confident and assertive, and he supports me wholeheartedly in all that I do. Whilst in prayer and fasting, seeking God’s guidance on the direction of the relationship, I asked if he was the one and I got my confirmation. It was so clear, and instantly I felt a great level of peace.”

Additionally, she had introduced him to her son and they instantly formed their own connection. “Kavion was genuinely interested in his well-being, [always] checking in on him. That was the icing on the cake.”

Aside from her radiant beauty, Kavion enjoys how fun, adventurous and reliable Jahneil is. It helps that she is a great listener as well. “Her biggest contribution to my personal growth is initiating the right balance and understanding how to make me come out of my shell,” he revealed.

He also marvelled at the peace that she brings to their relationship. ”She keeps the relationship peaceful. We’re two different people, so we might have disagreements. But at the end of every disagreement, I will understand her perspective, she will understand mine. I’m never in a position where I feel like I’m not heard. She has taken the time to listen to my point of view and has allowed me to appreciate that there are many perspectives in life.”

This peaceful environment has helped with his growth and development in a way that he never saw possible, translating seamlessly in the success of his business. “Then when I learned that she became pregnant with our child, there was just this fire energy to make sure that all her wants and needs are taken care of. It was as if nothing else mattered. It was just a tunnel vision to put everything in place,” he shared.

After officially courting for a year and seven months, Kavion decided to show his love and pure admiration for Jahneil by asking her to be his wife. Proposal Ja helped to create the magical event.

Surrounded by lush greenery at Boone Hall Oasis, accentuated by red roses and the soothing sounds from a live saxophonist, Jahneil found the love of her life waiting for her at an exquisite gazebo with the surprise of a lifetime.

Walking the red carpet, she was serenaded by his rendition of The Matrimony by Wale and Usher. When she arrived before him, Kavion declared, “I want to thank you for being patient. I want to thank you for your support. Through it all, I’ve always been telling you that I was making plans. And now, I would love to include you in those plans.”

From there, he went down on one knee and before he could pop the question, an excited Jahneil said yes.

The couple got to planning the wedding with the help of a wedding planner, SKay Events Management, who understood that assignment. As for the wedding dress, after going to three bridal shops locally and four different bridal stores in the States, Jahneil said yes to a gorgeous, curve-hugging dress from Atlanta, Georgia.

Kavion and Jahniel tied the knot in a breathtaking wedding ceremony held on the lawns of Rio Nuevo Village in St Mary. “The wedding was more than a dream come through. The venue and décor were so beautiful, the guests were amazing, and both the ceremony and reception were incredible. It was way more than I had hoped for and I enjoyed every single moment,” the blushing bride said.

Her favourite moment came when she shared the first kiss with her husband, who went all in to celebrate the union with his lawfully wedded wife. An impromptu dance was shared as a precursor, courtesy of the groom’s brother, who played Enrique Iglesias’ Hero via saxophone.

Nervous and elated, the dapper groom’s best moment came as his stunning bride walked up the aisle. As he made his way to meet her, Kavion declared his love to Jahneil and entertained the audience by singing Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley.

At the reception, the newly-weds shared an idyllic ‘Grant’ moment during their official first dance to Perfect by Ed Sheeran. “It was the perfect song with the perfect lyrics for the perfect moment. Dancing in the arms of my husband felt so unbelievable. Awestruck, it was perfectly complemented by the clouds and the sparklers going off behind us. It felt like it was just the two of us dancing in a space all by ourselves, lost in love,” Mrs Grant reflected.
