Love has this incredible way of coming to the rescue during the most unforeseen circumstances. Nicole Porter first saw Rickcardo Mitchell at her grandmother’s funeral three years ago, where they only exchanged pleasantries. Fast forward to last year, as Nicole boarded a flight to Jamaica, seeking a break from reality. In a twist of fate, when her driver was unable to pick her up, Rickcardo, recommended by her aunt, stepped in to fill the void. The arrival sparked a connection so enchanting that it led to holy matrimony.

“Initially, I thought she was a beautiful soul with such a vibrant personality and a great passion for God as I do,” Rickcardo told Island Wedding. This recognition only developed into having an even greater appreciation for her once they got better acquainted.

Nicole would go on to spend 10 days on the island before returning to the US. When she left, Rickcardo found himself catching a flight and feelings in the process. “He was here with me for 10 days. And after he returned to Jamaica, guess who was back to Jamaica for 10 days? Me,” Nicole said, laughing.

During this refreshing state of euphoria, the pair decided to make things official, becoming a couple one month later.

“She is a woman of prayer and she’s very prophetic, speaking so many words of wisdom and prophecy over my life. She shows me so much love. She is my biggest supporter in all my endeavours and someone who I know I can count on,” Rickcardo revealed. Her Christian nature was further magnified by her ambition and intellect, along with her caring spirit.

Echoing the sentiment that Rickcardo was a God-fearing man who also had a love for people, Nicole was equally impressed by his striking handsomeness, intelligence, intentionality, and unwavering steadiness. Rickcardo continues to play an integral role in her life and in their union.

“He has been instrumental in my spiritual growth. There is an immense sense of safety and security with him. I trust him to lead us, spiritually and now in our home. He respects me, and I honour him,” she said.

“He appreciates my opinion. In the areas that I have strategically developed expertise over the years, he is pragmatic enough to allow me to shine where I shine. And this dynamic works for us, Nicole shared, adding, “He has never wavered in wanting me, even when I get fussy. No matter what happens, it’s him and I.”

With similar degrees in politics and ministry, the loving duo explores these interests together. They also enjoy singing, dancing and travelling. “To be honest, we are a tour couple, so we go all over,” Rickcardo highlighted. Nicole chimed in by saying, “We travel together and we both have great family relationships. Any excuse for a party and some good laughter.”

Rickcardo wasted no time in making the love of his life his lawfully wedded wife. After three blissful months of dating, he proposed to Nicole at the place they had their first date, Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel.

“Our mutual friend, Jodena Brown Russell, introduced us to the live band at Terra Nova on Wednesday nights. She knew Dennis Rushton, and everyone knows I love singing. So I asked Jode to ask Dennis to allow me to sing at the resumption of the second half of the show. She did and he said yes, so I got the ring and a few friends to attend. And in the middle of my musical selection Something Strong by Tarrus Riley, I popped the question,” he recalled.

Pleasantly surprised, Nicole described the occasion as magical. “There were some important people there that night, and I felt like the only girl in the room.”

Organising the course of action for the big day, Rickcardo received assistance from their friend Jodena, who is the wedding planner for Blissful Events.

On February 24, the beautiful bride made her way up the aisle at Boone Hall Oasis in Stony Hill to meet her handsome groom. Showers of blessing were a perfect match for the love that filled the air as the two exchanged vows, sealed the deal with a kiss, and happily took their first walk as husband and wife. The reception followed suit in festive fashion.

“The wedding was beautiful,” the groom reflected, adding that the best moment of the ceremony was seeing his wife make her grand entrance. He made special mention of the unplanned praise break, which was also enjoyed by his bride.

The newly-weds took to the dance floor for the first dance to Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. “I indeed felt loved,” Mrs Mitchell added.
