Leave me out of it, says Dabdoub

Attorney-at-law Abe Dabdoub has fired back at Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) member, Delroy Chuck, telling him to leave him out of the party’s internal politics.

At a party conference in Portland on Sunday, Chuck said JLP leader, Andrew Holness, has hired Dabdoub, who is a former party member, to advise him on constitutional matters.

Holness currently has a case pending in the Appeal Court in which he is challenging a Constitutional Court ruling that he acted unlawfully when he used pre-signed, undated letters of resignation to remove two opposition senators.

Contacted yesterday, Dabdoub would not confirm whether he has been retained by Holness.

However, he said he is an attorney first and foremost and his past with the party has nothing to do with his ability to represent the party or its members in legal matters:

Dabdoub left the JLP in 2006 and after the 2007 general elections, which the JLP won, West Portland MP Daryl Vaz was taken to court by Dabdoub over his dual citizenship.

Over the weekend Chuck questioned the rationale behind hiring Dabdoub, saying he has cost the JLP dearly in the past.
