Young Jamaica happy with sacking of NSWMA boss

The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica, is describing the decision to dismiss NSWMA boss, Jennifer Edwards, as a victory for good governance and accountability.

Young Jamaica says there has been unprecedented disruption to social and economic life in the capital and beyond and it would have been difficult to imagine a situation where no one was held accountable.

However, even as Young Jamaica commends the Board of the NSWMA for taking action, it says it must be ensured that no political consideration informs the appointment of a replacement for Edwards.

It says the challenges facing the agency require capable and informed leadership.

And the group says the government must appreciate the need to appoint an individual with proven competencies suitable to manage the agency at this time.

Meanwhile, Young Jamaica is urging all Jamaicans affected by the smoke nuisance to lodge a report with the Public Defender's office.
