Chuck: Recent events and the court cases have severely damaged your image and the attractiveness of the party to the public.

FROM THE ARCHIVES

Delroy Chuck has resigned as a member of the Andrew Holness-led shadow cabinet.

He was the spokesman on justice and legal affairs.

In his resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre, Chuck urged Holness to follow his example.

Chuck said the ruling by the Court of Appeal in the Senate seat saga has damaged Holness’ image and that of the Jamaica Labour Party.

SEE CHUCK's RESIGNATION LETTER TO ANDREW HOLNESS

Dear Andrew,

I herein tender by resignation as Shadow Cabinet.

I intended to resign soon after reading the decision in the Constructional Court case brought by Arthur Williams, but, an appeal having been filed, I awaited the ruling in the appeal.

The decision of the appellate court is now out and, an unnecessarily,

I assert, has caused further damage to you and the Jamaica Labour Party. Unlikely as it may seem, I bear you no ill-will and do have your best interest in mind.

However, I must put our great party, the JLP, above all other consideration including your present leadership. I strongly believe your continuation as leader can only hurt the chances of the JLP in the next general and/or local government elections.

You are a relatively young man with the vision, intellect and potential to return to Jamaica House, but this can only happened, in my respectful opinion, if, as this time, you take sabbatical leave from the leadership of the party.

Recent events and the court cases have severely damaged your image and the attractiveness of the party to the public.

Accordingly, I urge you to follow my example of resignation.

In due course, whatever the outcome of the next elections, you can return stronger, wiser and better as leader of our party and the country.
Sincerely,

Delroy Chuck
