Jennifer Edwards seeks injunction quashing removal as NSWMA boss

The embattled executive director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Jennifer Edwards, is seeking an injunction to quash her removal from the agency.

Edwards and her attorney appeared in the chambers of Justice Lennox Campbell a short while ago seeking an ex parte injunction, however, the judge did not grant the application.

He instead ordered her to serve the documents of the NSWMA and for both parties to return to court on April 2.

Edwards wants an order to quash the decision of the board of the NSWMA to terminate her contract.

She is also seeking an order prohibiting the agency from terminating her contract and employment without following the lawful procedures for termination.

Edwards also wants an order prohibiting the NSWMA from advertising the position of executive director or interviewing persons.

In addition, she wants to continue to receive all salaries, emolument, benefits and entitlements due to her as executive directive.

Edwards contends that she had a legitimate expectation that in the absence of misconduct on her part or any reasonable grounds for termination, her contract would have been renewed.

It expired last month, and just over a week ago, the NSWMA board declared that it would not be renewed.

But in court documents, Edwards said the decision to remove her was "arbitrary, oppressive, unlawful and unreasonable."

She also said she was denied the opportunity of knowing the allegations against her or an opportunity to be heard in relation to the allegations against her, which she contends breached natural justice principles.

According to Edwards, she suffered hardships from the dismissal and she was substantially prejudiced.
