Local Government Minister Noel Arscott is expected today to announce a reconstituted board for the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has confirmed that four of the 11 board members have resigned but there have been reports of up to seven resignations.

Contacted last night, board Chairman Steve Ashley confirmed he knew of four resignations but would not give much more.

However, he said he had not tendered his resignation.

He said he has been informed that Arscott intends to address the matter at a press conference today.

In mid-March, the board decided not to renew the contract of executive director Jennifer Edwards saying it was dissatisfied with her leadership and management of the agency.

However, the outgoing executive director hit back accusing the board chairman of unfairly meddling in the day to day running of the agency.

She also claimed that she is being used as a scapegoat arising from the public uproar over the massive fire at the Riverton disposal site earlier this month.

Arscott had met with Edwards and Ashley following the board’s decision, however, he has not made any public statements on the outcome of those talks.

Edwards is to return to the Supreme Court tomorrow in relation to her application for an injunction to quash her removal from the agency.
