JTA eager for resumption of wage talks

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says it is yet to hear from the Government after unions rejected the government's wage increase offer last week.

According to the Association, teachers are eager for the government to resume talks for the 2015/2017 contract period.

Last week Thursday, government officials met with representatives of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions and the JTA and offered a five percent wage increase.

The government proposed a three percent increase in year one and two percent in the second year.

However, the offer was rejected.

Dixon says the teachers are not prepared to see the wage talks drag on.

President, Doran Dixon, says teachers were hoping the government would have settled the salary talks before the wage freeze expired on March 31.
