A bush fire burns near the Mavis Bank main road.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade says the fire in East Rural St Andrew has now been contained in two main areas.

Divisional Commander for Kingston and St Andrew, Superintendent Sean Martin, says the fire is being battled in the Tower Hill, Lyme Tree area and in Pine Grove near Craig Head.

He says the blaze in those areas is extensive.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Martin, says more resources are being pumped into the fire fighting efforts including this morning’s airlifting of 10 personnel from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to the affected areas.

The senior fire brigade official says the authorities will be able to provide more details later on possible timelines to extinguish the fire.

He says an assessment will be done later today on the day’s efforts and that will inform the rest of the operations.

More than 30 JDF and fire fighting personnel are on the ground battling the blaze.
