Video evidence frees Guardsman employees of policeman's accusations

Two security consultants employed to Guardsman Armoured Limited have been freed of gun and assault charges after video evidence backed up their story.

Raymond Robinson and Ian Firth were freed of illegal possession of firearm and inflicting bodily harm on a policeman arising from an incident at an ATM machine in August last year in May Pen.

Justice Sarah Thompson freed the men on Friday in the Gun Court Division of the Circuit Court in May Pen, Clarendon.

Jovan Johnson reports

The policeman had claimed that he went to the machine located outside the Parkview Supermarket when three men pulled a firearm on him and assaulted him without lawful justification.

However, the Guardsman employees countered the assertion, noting that they had gone to service the machine.

They said after allowing the last customer to leave, the policeman, who was in plainclothes, tried to force himself inside the machine.

The security consultants told the court that they ordered the policeman to leave after he used his feet to stop the door to the machine from closing.

Under cross-examination by defence lawyer, Dwight Reece, the policeman denied the claims.

The defence later produced video footage of the incident and after the court viewed it, the policeman admitted that he used his feet to prevent the ATM’s door from closing.

And the video did not support the policeman’s claim that he was hit in the face and head by the men.

Justice Thompson later ruled that there was no evidence that the men did anything wrong.
