State to push for compensation in human trafficking case

Senior prosecutor, Lisa Palmer Hamilton, says the State will be pushing for the court to order the businessman today convicted for human trafficking to compensate the victims. 

She says the Crown will file its application in court next week Friday, the same day Rajesh Gurunani is expected to be sentenced.

According to Palmer, the case against Gurunani was compelling and the jury’s attention would have been drawn to the nature of the exploitation of the victims.

The prosecutor also says Gurunani created what she described as an environment of enforced control over the people he trafficked from India to Jamaica.
