BGLC moves to ensure gaming operators comply with new Proceeds of Crime law

The Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) says it has been working closely with gaming lounge operators to ensure that their establishments are in compliance with the requirements of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
The measures are expected to be in place by the middle of next year. The POCA legislation is aimed at strengthening the framework for combating money laundering and terrorism financing in Jamaica.
As a designated non-financial institution under the Act, game lounge operators have a responsibility to ensure that their businesses are not used by criminals to launder the proceeds of their crimes.
Director of Compliance at the BGLC, Laurie Wiggan, says the Commission has been providing training and advisory services to game lounge operators to assist them to meet the deadline.
