$100 million road repair for Clarendon

The roadway leading from Mineral Heights to Dawkins Pen will be enjoying a $100-million road rehabilitation under the upcoming Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme, Phase 5.
The announcement was made last Thursday at the official opening of Mack Corner road rehabilitation project by Member of Parliament Richard Azan.
In making the declaration, Azan reminded that it's not a People's National Party (PNP) or Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) road.
"It's a road leading to development of people's lives and we must understand that we have to take politics out of development," he said.
Azan added: "Any time you want to see development, you have to make sure that everybody, whether you're PNP or JLP, is a part of what you are doing, and it can't be that because some people may have different colour - party colour - they are human beings like anyone else," he said.
The function also saw the official ribbon-cutting of one of the first of the three roads which were rehabilitated.
Mack's Corner, Palmers Cross was done at a cost of $4.81 million; Denbigh to Second Street, Terrier Town $3.91 million and Kellits to Colouden, cost $3.68 million.
Azan urged residents to take care of the roads.
"It's good when roads are repaired, but I am calling on residents to help to maintain them. Don't block the road, don't put garbage in the drains and feel it's politician's job to maintain them," he warned.
The minister also encouraged residents to start paying their property taxes "to get more road repairs".
