Bunting, Holness condemn policewoman's killing

Yesterday’s attack on Constable Thomas has been met with shock and outrage.

In a statement to the media this morning, National Security Minister, Peter Bunting condemned Constable Thomas’ killing.

The National Security Minister expressed condolences to the family and friends of the young police officer as well as her colleagues in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
        
Bunting also said members of the JCF would leave no stone unturned as they go after the men who murdered the young constable as she was making her way home yesterday evening.

Already, two men have been taken into custody in relation to the murder.

It is understood the police has also recovered a gun.

It is uncertain whether the gun belonged to the dead police officer or was used in the attack 

The National Security Minister also issued an appeal to members of the public to step forward and share any information they may have in relation to the brutal attack.

According Bunting no one is safe while criminals and illegal guns remain in communities.

The Jamaica Labour Party has also condemned the attack.

Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness and spokesman on national security, Derrick Smith said they were shocked and saddened by the killing.

In a joint statement condemning the policewoman's killing, Holness and Smith said it is obvious that criminal elements are becoming increasingly vicious.

The JLP leaders urged members of the public to spare a thought for the hardworking men and women of the JCF at this time.

Holness and Smith say the brutal murder is frightening reminder of the difficult circumstances under which the country’s police men and women work in service of Jamaica.

The statement also urged members of the JCF to be vigilant at all times and to take the necessary precautions and take necessary precautions in ensuring their own safety and that of the public.
