CAPE rankings: Denbigh High only upgraded school in top 30

 Denbigh High School in Clarendon continues to outperform many so-called traditional high schools in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) based on a new ranking published today.

Educate Jamaica says the ranking highlights the schools doing the best at the top three levels of the grade scale in last year’s exams.

CAPE, which is administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council, has passes ranging from grades one to five.

Denbigh, which was ranked 22nd last year, improved to 18th in this year’s ranking.

It is the only upgraded school in the top 30 of this year’s rankings.

According to the report, 60.2 per cent of the students who sat CAPE exams last year, achieved grades one to three in two or more subjects.

The school’s percent this year represents a drop from the 64.2 per cent last year.

However, the school was able to outperform so-called traditional institutions including, Titchfield, Kingston College, Munro College, Knox College, Manchester High, Calabar High and Jamaica College.

Campion College and Immaculate Conception High are the top schools with more than 90 per cent of their students last year achieving grades one to three in two or more subjects.

Tivoli Gardens and Papine High are the lowest ranked schools with none of their CAPE students meeting the criteria.
