York Castle High School students, beneficiaries of a greenhouse development programme sponsored by Noranda Bauxite, are in a celebratory mood after being declared winner of the Noranda Schools Greenhouse Competition launched in 2014.

Noranda Bauxite introduced the School's Greenhouse Technology Competition in 2014 following a donation of fully equipped greenhouses, one each to York Castle High School, Brown's Town High, Aboukir Institute, St Christopher's School for the Deaf and Aabuthnott Gallimore High School.

As a result of the programme, the schools were meeting the objectives of increasing their knowledge of greenhouse technology as part of the agricultural curriculum. The schools were judged in categories of use of pesticides, use of fertilisers, general maintenance and best production 2014-15.

Noranda awarded sectional prizes of equipment, seeds and cash, and announced that the programme would be expanded to other schools in the company's operating area during the 2015-16 school year.
