More than 230 persons prosecuted for traffic violations so far today
More than 230 persons have been issued with traffic tickets today for breaches of the Road Traffic Act as the police step up their presence on the roads for the holiday period.
Head of the Police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, says the prosecutions were recorded in Montego Bay, St James where the police have begun their intensified operation.
SSP Allen says the majority of the prosecutions were for not wearing seat belts.
He says the operation will be rolled out nationwide as the police aim to minimise traffic incidents and crime in general on the nation’s roads.
SSP Allen also says the police will be fully utilising its breathalyser system.
The head of the traffic division points out that holiday periods can be challenging for the police as it regards road crashes.
SSP Allen is encouraging road users to observe safety standards.
