Police Federation says it's not holding up wage talks with Government

The Jamaica Police Federation is insisting that wage talks with the Government have not come to a standstill because it is refusing to attend meetings.

The police federation says at a meeting following July’s sick-out by rank and file police personnel, it was agreed that two follow-up meetings would be held.

The police federation says the date for the first meeting was to be communicated to the Federation.

However, police federation chairman, Sergeant Raymond Wilson, says the first meeting was never held.

He says the second meeting with the technical team was then put off pending the outcome of the first meeting.

He says the federation wrote to the lead negotiator for the Government, Horace Dalley, up to August 3, requesting that the meeting be held.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Wilson has accused the Government of treating the police federation with scant regard because of the current court action against the union in relation to July’s sick-out.

Sergeant Wilson says the Police Federation will take appropriate action if Dalley does not move the negotiations along.

The police federation has rejected the seven per cent wage increase proposal put forward by the Government.

And it has also said it is not in favour of a $4,000 increase for all public sector workers.
