Maldon High School in St. James to move to single shift

The Maldon High School in St. James is to be taken off the shift come September.

Principal, Janet Manning, says the decision follows months of discussions.

Manning says the school will operate on an extended day system which will see classes being held from 7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m.

The principal says with only one shift, students will no longer have to travel late evenings or at nights to get home after school.

Manning says measures have already been put in place with all stakeholders, to ensure that the transition from a double shift to a single shift is smooth and that all available spaces will be utilised.

The principal also says efforts are being made to ensure that the welfare of every student and teacher is protected.

Maldon High School, which received some 202 students following the Grade Six Achievement Test this year, has an enrolment of 1,200 students and 63 teachers on staff.
