A man arrested and charged by members of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) for several fraud related offences is to appear in court on Tuesday.

He is 36-year-old Carey Lawrence of 2 North, Greater Portmore in St Catherine.

He has been charged with Conspiracy to Defraud; Forgery; Uttering Forged Document; Obtaining Money by means of Forged Document; and Causing Monies to be paid by means of Forged Document.

The police say sometime in 2013 Lawrence went to a financial institution in Spanish Town, St Catherine and applied for a loan of $3 million.

He allegedly tendered a motor vehicle certificate of title as security along with a letter stating that the owner of the car gave him permission to use the title.

The loan was eventually approved and disbursed to him.

However, a verification exercise later revealed that the owner of the car died several years before.

The matter was reported to the police, an investigation was launched and Lawrence was arrested and charged.

He is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
