Tension in Montego Bay communities following overnight shootings, two killed

There is tension in Montego Bay, St James following reports of heavy and sustained gunfire across several communities last night.

Two people were killed in the shootings.

Their identities have not been ascertained, but The Gleaner-Power106 News Centre understands that one of the victims is a street cleaner who was  killed while carrying out his duties.

The other victim is believed to be a taxi operator.

He was killed along the main road from Montego Bay to Granville.

According to police reports, there was heavy and sustain gunfire in the communities of Flankers, Canterbury, Norwood, Bottom Pen, Rose Heights and downtown Montego Bay.

Several several vehicles that were parked along King Street near Canterbury were also shot up.

The police are now maintaining a strong presence in the community.
