Jamaica observes Maritime Awareness Week 2015

The international maritime community is celebrating September 20-24 as its annual Maritime Awareness Week under the theme 'Maritime Education and Training'.

Led by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Jamaican shipping and related organisations have mounted a week of activities intended to recognise the service of seafarers to the maritime sector, highlight the dynamic nature of the industries and their importance to world trade, celebrate the achievements in the sector and educate the public on the issues impacting it. This year the focus is on increasing awareness of the career opportunities available, and highlighting institutions that provide training for maritime industry professionals.
