I was not arrested, says PNP councillor after fight with party activist

Sylvan Reid, the People’s National Party (PNP) councillor for the Salt Spring division in the St James Parish Council, is refuting a claim by Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor that he was arrested following a fist-fight today.

Reid and PNP supporter Don Brownie clashed at the Farm Height’s Community Centre where attorneys Ashley-Ann Foster and Henry McCurdy are locked in a keen battle to replace incumbent Central St James Member of Parliament Lloyd B Smith.

“I went to the Mt Salem Police Station  on my own to lodge a complaint following an altercation I had with another gentleman," Reid.

"I gave a statement to the police but was not arrested. The police instructed me to go the doctor and I have a medical certificate here to prove it,” he said pointing to a swollen left eye.

Shortly after the fist-fight between Reid and Brownie, SSP McGregor told The Gleaner that both men were arrested and had been sent to the Mt Salem Police Station to be processed.

Brownie, said he too was went to the Mt Salem Police Station, and was asked to give a statement, he said he was not arrested.
