JPS working to restore power after heavy rains

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it is working to restore electricity to several communities in the Corporate Area, St Catherine, Clarendon and St Elizabeth following yesterday's heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The weather was influenced by the passage of Hurricane Joaquin over sections of The Bahamas.

JPS says the weather resulted in unusual outages and downed utility poles and power lines. It says work crews are making every effort to have power supply restored to a number of areas in the affected communities.

The utility provider is also apologising to customers for the unusual wait time they may be experiencing when attempting to make contact through the 1-888-225-5577/1-888-935-5577 telephone lines.

JPS says this is due to an increased number of calls as customers make contact to report outages in their communities.
