Seven-year-old girl killed in Clarendon hit-and-run, residents call for overhead bridge

Residents of Savannah Cross in Clarendon are once again calling for authorities to construct an overhead bridge across the Bustamante Highway following the death of a child in a hit and run accident in the vicinity yesterday.

The placard bearing residents came out this morning protesting the manner in which the child was hit and left for dead on the roadway.

They say they have repeatedly pleaded for an overhead bridge to be installed but their calls have fallen on deaf ears.

Seven-year-old Abigail Whyne was struck by a car allegedly driven by a female along the roadway while on her way to school yesterday morning.

It is reported that another female motorist saw the child lying on the side of the road and took her to the May Pen hospital.

She was later transferred to the University Hospital of the West Indies and then to the Bustamante Hospital for Children where she succumbed to her injuries.

It's understood that the driver of the motorcar which hit the child, subsequently turned herself in to the police.

She is now being questioned.
