Broadcasting Commission to issue another all-island cable licence
Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission, Cordel Green, says an expansion in the cable market is on the horizon.
Green says the Commission is set to release a licence to a second cable operator at the national level.
He says an evaluation is underway which could see a major third player emerge.
The impending move comes months after the Broadcasting Commission issued a directive to cable operators to remove unauthorised cable channels.
The executive director, who was at a Rotary Club of Kingston Luncheon yesterday, said the Broadcasting Commission continues to ensure that the local cable market remains open, fair and competitive at all times.
Green said he believes that subscribers must always have options, as this greatly reduces the risk of poor-quality “take it or leave it” customer service in the cable market.
