ICAJ to Host Top Level Conference

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) will hold its 50th-anniversary business conference at Kingston's Jamaica Pegasus hotel on October 30 and 31.

A host of high-profile and highly accomplished professionals in the field will make presentations. Among them is Olivia Kirtley, CPA, who became president of the International Federation of Accountants board in November 2014.

She previously served as deputy president from 2012 to 2014 and was first elected to the board in November 2007. Kirtley is a business consultant on strategic, risk and governance issues. She is a former vice-president of finance and chief financial officer of a global manufacturing company and a joint venture of Emerson Electric Co and Robert Bosch GmbH. Kirtley spent the first decade of her career with Ernst & Ernst/Ernst & Whinney (now EY) in both audit and tax.

Kirtley, who holds a master's degree in taxation from Georgia State University and a Bachelor's degree in accounting from Florida Southern College, will present on the topic: The Accounting Profession: Adding Value to Economic Development.

Jasmine Y. Davis was elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) in June 2015. An Immediate past president of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants, she is the third president of that organisation to be elected to the leadership of the ICAC.

The newly elected president has affirmed her commitment to continue to advance the strategic goals of the ICAC and to strengthen the role of the ICAC as the recognised umbrella body for the accountancy profession in the Caribbean.

Among her extensive list of accomplishments, she is a certified public accountant (Illinois 1998), a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a licensed chartered accountant (The Bahamas 2011).

she entered the accountancy profession in The Bahamas in 1998 and received her training at PricewaterhouseCoopers. After leaving PwC, Davis held various top management positions in the health-care and insurance industry in The Bahamas and is currently the vice-president of finance at Doctors Hospital.

A graduate of Florida International University with a Bachelor of Accounting degree, and a Society of Caribbean Accountants Association Scholar, and also a Moby Fund Scholar, she will moderate the panel discussion titled The Executive Woman: a balancing act.
