Fenton Ferguson: There is just no keeping the health minister off the front pages.  Last week he dominated the headlines following the revelation that since June at least 18 babies affected by health care-associated infections while in intensive care at the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) and the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) died.

Derick Latibeaudiere: The former Central Bank governor found himself back in the news when the affairs and operations of the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ), which he chairs, came under the spotlight.  A Ministry of Finance audit exposed a number of irregularities at the HAJ.

Arlene Harrison Henry:  St Hilda’s High School’s decision to relieve Jade Bascoe of the post of head girl due to religious reasons has refused to die with the Public Defender recommending last week that the Anglican institution’s board restore the 16-year-old to the position claiming her removal was due to discrimination. Harrison Henry charged that Bascoe, was subjected to inhumane and raw discriminatory treatment.

Dr Alfred Dawes:  The outspoken president of the Jamaica Medical Doctors' Association set tongues wagging last week when it became public knowledge that he had resigned from the post with immediate effect after choosing not to renew his three-year contract as senior registrar at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine.

Richard Shane Bennett:  The medical doctor was among 223 outstanding men and women who were recognised at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony, on National Heroes Day. Bennett was conferred with the Badge of Honour for Gallantry after showing great fortitude to save his neighbour, who was attacked and stabbed several times while at home in July 2014.

Novlene Williams Mills: It was a great week for the World Championships 400-metre relay gold medallist, who was among four sports personalities bestowed with the Order of Distinction, Officer Class (OD) at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony. The 33-year-old breast cancer survivor was last week also presented with the prestigious Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence in Sports.
