A Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) official has confirmed that Devon Wint will no longer be its candidate in West Central St Catherine in the impending general election.

Wint, the Councillor of the Point Hill Division was today booted by the JLP hierarchy after reportedly rejecting a request to resign over certain allegations against him.

He could not be reached for comment.

However, a party insider said Wint has maintained his innocence.

“He is claiming that he is innocent, so there is no need for him to resign but there was no consideration for the greater good of the party,” said the JLP insider who asked not to be named.

In September this year, Wint was selected to be the JLP’s replacement for the retiring Dr Ken Baugh in West Central St Catherine.

In an internal election, Wint beat Senator Dr Christopher Tufton by 15 votes polling 211 votes to Tufton’s 196.
