Manchester: Prepared for influx of vendors

With the expected influx of buyers and sellers into Mandeville for the rest of the week leading to a peak on Thursday, the Manchester Parish Council has turned to the police for help to ensure order on the streets.

Mayor of Mandeville Brenda Ramsay says the onus is on members of the police force and officials of the council to ensure that law and order is maintained.

"A request has been made to the police for assistance at the municipal level and there has been some registration of vendors who have come in. We have an influx of those and we will be making some space available in the market for them" said Ramsay

According to Ramsay, after the registration process there will be a zero tolerance approach to those vendors who have not been registered and assigned areas to sell their wares.

Ramsey said some traffic changes have already been implemented and these will be enforced as it moves towards Christmas Eve on Thursday.

Among the changes is the introduction of one-way traffic going south from the town forcing motorists travelling into the town from Manchester Road or Lane to divert on to Grove road or Wesley Avenue.

An even greater increase in police presence on the streets of Mandeville should also be seen on Thursday.
