Motorists affected in bad gas saga advised to submit documents to Consumer Affairs

Motorists and other consumers affected by the bad gas saga are being urged to submit formal documentation of their situation to the Consumer Affairs Commission.

In a statement this afternoon, the Energy Ministry said consumers should put together a series of documents.

These should include a report from a mechanic or other certified expert outlining the problems experienced with the motor vehicle.

They should also submit information regarding where the fuel was purchased.

The CAC will collate all reports and submit them to the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) for further tests and inspections to be conducted.

The reporting mechanism was among the outcomes from a meeting today involving Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell, Attorney General, Patrick Atkinson, Opposition spokesman on Energy, Robert Montague and other industry stakeholders in the gasolene sector.

Paulwell reiterated that the government was pursuing possible compensation for persons affected by the bad gas.

Motorists have reported engine problems allegedly caused by the so-called bad gas.

A committee probing the issue is to submit a report on the issue by January 31.
