UPDATED: Jamaica College Ready to Accept Boarders
Principal at Jamaica College (JC), Ruel Reid, is strongly recommending that students at the all-boy institution who live outside the Corporate Area consider boarding.
Come September, JC will open new boarding facilities that will be able to house up to 70 students.
"We hope to be fully operational for September 2016, but may roll out a soft opening for few students in April," Reid said.
The Mayer Matalon Dormitory, located on the north-northeastern side of the JC campus, near to College Green Avenue and the American International School of Kingston, is expected to have a number of programmes that will improve the educational outcomes of students.
During the week, boarders will have organised tutorial and extra-curricular sessions.
Weekends will include time for games and spiritual guidance.
Boarding at JC will cost J$40,000 per month for locals and US$10,000 per year for overseas residents. The boarding fee will cover meals and organised homework, study, and CXC extra classes.
*NOTE: Earlier, this story had said it would cost US$10,000 per month for boarders from overseas. That was incorrect. It is in fact US$10,000 per year. For locals, it will be J$40,000 per month.
