OUR receives 17 bids for additional power to national grid

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has received 17 bids from ten entities wishing to setup electricity generation projects from renewable energy sources.

The companies are bidding to contribute up to 37 megawatts to the national grid.

The submissions were opened at the OUR offices following the international issue of requests for proposals in July last year.

One company, Green Waste to Energy Incorporated has submitted a proposal to contribute just under 25 megawatts to the national grid by converting waste to energy.

The Wigton Wind Farm has submitted a proposal to add 34 megawatts to the grid through wind energy.

Tamarind Energy has also submitted proposals for wind projects.

Several companies have submitted proposals for solar projects.

The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica wants to add two megawatts through a hyrdo plant.

The evaluation of the bids is expected to be completed by the end of April.

The successful projects will operate on a Build, Own and Operate Basis.
